About the organisation

The Building Fund was set up by Jessyca Dudley after a trip to Ghana showed her that the country's schools were full of willing and able pupils, but were held back by a lack of resources. The charity now seeks to create and sustain opportunities at The Young Apostles International School of Ghana by funding the building of classrooms, donating supplies, providing scholarships and engaging volunteers.

Why stuff your rucksack?

Ghana faces an education crisis, where demand for schooling far outweighs the resources available. The Building Fund provides children with the essential items they need to learn, and is currently in the process of building a library. Having the right school supplies is essential to help them reach out to those in need. As Rachel Brill from the charity explains: "the children are so bright and dedicated – it is bittersweet to think about their potential and all they could achieve if they had more resources, a better school building, and well-trained teachers".

How to get there

Kumasi is over 250km north-west of the capital Accra. There are several flights per week to Accra and Tamale, as well as buses, trains and taxis.
